1784-PKTx Network Interface Card

Rockwell Automation 1784-PKTx interfaces PCs to PLC-5s & SLC 5/04 controllers on DH+ and SLC processors on DH-485 networks for simple programming and data acquisition using popular RSLINX / Logix 5, and RSVIEW.  This interface card is no long available and AB recommends the 1784-U2DHP.

More about the 1784-PKTX

This card is useful for PLC programming, configuration, and monitoring  via an industrial or desktop PC.

The 1784-PKTx network interface card (cat. nos. 1784-PKTX and 1784-PKTXD) is a PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) universal card that must be inserted into a PCI bus slot. A universal card can be placed into a PCI bus slot that is keyed for either 3.3 Volt or 5 Volt signalling. This card may also be placed in a 64-bit slot, although it will not use the extended 64-bit operation. Table 1.1 outlines features supported by the PKTx cards.

ANC120e 300x115 - 1784-PKTx Network Interface Card

The ANC-120e is an economical and high performance USB to AB DH+ PLC Programming Cable, alternative to the 1784-U2DHP, interfacing major HMI, SCADA, PLC Programming packages to PLCs on DH+. Efficiently engineered using the AB Controllogix Ethernet/IP driver for faster throughput.

The 1784-PKTX communicates with the following PLCs on AB DH+ which include:

PLC-5 Processors.

PLC-5s are single-slot modules that are placed into the left-most slot of a 1771 I/O chassis. They are available in a range of I/O, memory, and communication capability.

PLC-5 have ports configurable for either a Data Highway Plus messaging communication link or a Universal Remote I/O link. As a Universal Remote I/O port, it can be configured as either an I/O scanner port or an I/O adapter port. As an I/O scanner port, it monitors and controls the I/O on the link by communicating with the I/O adapters for those I/O. As an adapter port, it communicates only with the I/O scanner port on the link, passing a maximum of one I/O rack of input and output data between the two to provide distributed processing.

SLC 5/04s.
SLC 5/04 processors allow you to configure modular controllers of up to 4096 inputs plus 4096 outputs and a memory of either 16K, 32K, or 64K words. They have all the features of the SLC 5/03 processors, plus a faster communication port and shorter execution times (bit-instruction execution times of 0.37ms). The SLC 5/04 has a built-in DH+ port for communication with other SLC 5/04 and PLC processors, operator interfaces, and programming terminals. Communication via the DH+ network is three times faster than DH-485 communication.

The 1784-PKTx card is a PCI bus card, compliant with the PCI Bus Specification Revision 2.3. This card was developed with Plug and Play functionality, as defined in Revision 1.0A of the Plug and Play BIOS Specification. Because of this, PKTx cards do not require the use of switches or jumpers to configure their specific interrupt request levels (IRQ) and base memory address values. These configurations are automatically assigned to the PKTx card by the PCI BIOS when the computer is powered-up. The configurations are stored in the PCI configuration registers. These values may be retrieved by application software used to communicate with the PKTx card.
